About chamomile essential oil

Chamomile, known in English as Chamomile, is said to come from the ancient Greek word Chamaimelon. German chamomile plants contain a compound called Matricin. During the distillation process, this component will undergo decarboxylation and dehydrogenation under high temperatures and pressures, and then form Chamazulene. It is the mother chrysanthemum azure hydrocarbon or azure hydrocarbon (Azulene) this substance, which gives German chamomile essential oil a beautiful blue color, so German chamomile essential oil is also known as blue chamomile essential oil.

Anti-inflammatory: chamomile fungi such as cyclic ether, flavonoids and total volatile oil have different inhibitory effects. in the Safety Assessment of Anthemis Nobilis-Derived Ingredient as Used in Cosmetics, the anti-inflammatory activity of Roman chamomile essential oil was tested on six adult male mice. The results confirmed that these oils significantly inhibited the increase in paw volume induced by carrageenan

Anti-depression: Essential oil aromatherapy is considered to be an alternative treatment for depression, Roman chamomile can relieve physical and psychological discomfort. In “The smell of Roman chamomile Essential Oil alleviates depression-like behavior in WKY Rats,” Ying Ying Kong et al. examined the effects of two weeks of aromatherapy therapy with Roman chamomile (Anthemis nobilis) essential oil on depression-like behavior in a depressed model rat (Rattus norvegicus). It was found that both Roman chamomile and aromatherapy of its main component, pinene, alleviated depression-like behavior in WKY rats during forced swimming experiments.

Antibacterial: According to Research Progress on Composition and Function of Medicinal Plant Mother Chrysanthemum, Soliman and Badeaa found that German chamomile essential oil has an inhibitory effect on two kinds of aspergillus (A. flavus, A. parasiticus) and F. moniliforme.

Antioxidant: German chamomile essential oil has a good antioxidant effect. In the Antioxidative Activity and Active Component Analysis of Various Extracts of Chamomile, Chu Bingquan et al. compared and studied the antioxidant activity of different polar extract components of German chamomile alcohol extract, and used HPLC and other methods to analyze the active component of the extract with the strongest antioxidant ability. The experimental results showed that the ethyl acetate extract of German chamomile had the strongest antioxidant capacity, and the good antioxidant capacity of the ethyl acetate extract may be related to the rich polyphenols and flavonoids.

Calming: Motherchrysanthemum essential oil is considered to have a good calming effect. Animal experiments in “Research Review and Application Prospect Analysis of motherchrysanthemum” show that inhaling motherchrysanthemum essential oil can reduce the stress caused by elevated adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) levels, and the combination of essential oil and diazepam can reduce ACTH levels. The method of chamomile essential oil is steam distillation, and 100~200kg dried flowers of Roman chamomile can produce 1kg essential oil; German chamomile, 125~350kg dried flowers can extract 1kg essential oil.
